The magic of metal: How a piece of foil means your juice can ditch the fridge

Fridges are the lifeblood of every household, and in busy family homes, every shelf and door rack is valuable real estate.
To honour the fridge, and the parents that stock it, we’ve made our juice cupboard-friendly. Thanks to a small piece of foil in our airtight cartons, our juice has all the great taste you’d expect with no need for refrigeration until you’re ready to serve.
Chilled is a serving suggestion, not a storage necessity.
Here’s how we do it differently:
A small piece of foil packs a big impact
To give the impression of freshness and healthiness, Big Juice has told us their juice must be refrigerated.
But in reality, no juice is actually fresh (unless it’s squeezed in front of your eyes). The illusion of freshness is a marketing ruse, and one we decided not to partake in.
The only thing you need to keep your juice tasting great is airtight packaging. By adding just a small piece of foil to our cartons, Eager juice tastes just as great but doesn’t need to be stored in expensive (and energy-intensive) fridges.
Our cartons are reinforced with a sealed barrier to prevent oxidisation - the browning or over-ripening of the enzymes naturally present in fruit.
This means you only need to chill it to serve, and once opened. Then like all juice, it should be consumed within five days.
We call this ambient juice.
Chilled juice vs ambient juice
Although you can often store chilled juices in your fridge for a month or so before drinking, the lack of an airtight seal means they would be unsafe to drink if left out of the fridge for more than a few hours.
Eager juice can live in a cupboard for up to six months if unopened - great news for families and those tight on fridge space.
And once drunk, you can recycle your Eager cartons with other Tetra Paks.
Cutting fridges everywhere
By the time you see chilled juice in the supermarket fridge, it has already been stored in chilled warehouses and transported in refrigerated lorries along the supply chain.
Chilled juice can’t be left at room temp, so this whole transportation process is seriously energy-consuming.
By removing unnecessary refrigeration from our supply chain, Eager cuts our carbon emissions by roughly 25% - a big step for a small juice company like us.
It also means we can deliver Eager juice straight to your door, with no need for ice packs or insulation.
