From fruit juice to Beetlejuice: Top creepy cocktails and haunting Halloween party decorations
Spooky season is creeping up on us. Get Halloween-ready with our pick of the best Halloween party decorations and gruesome juice-some drinks to serve your guests.
From blood-red juice punch and haunting hand-shaped ice, using our Eager pomegranate, cranberry, pink grapefruit and orange juices, to eerie hanging ghost decorations, here are our favourite DIY and ready-made party must-haves for Halloween 2023:
Witch’s brew punch with ice hands
Cauldrons at the ready. This witch’s brew will be sure to shock guests when the icy hand gives the ladle a creepy tap from within the bowl!
Made with Eager cranberry, pomegranate, grapefruit and orange juices, with a garnish of fresh cranberries, you can add bourbon and sparkling wine for grown-ups, or keep it alcohol-free for kids.
To make the hand ice moulds, rinse 2-3 large powder-free nitrile gloves. Fill the gloves two-thirds full with water, or to just above the thumbs, leaving 2-3 inches of the glove empty. Tie it closed and freeze until solid, before unpeeling just before adding to the punch.
Ingredients (serves 12-14):
- 475ml bourbon (optional)
- 180ml Eager cranberry juice
- 180ml Eager pomegranate juice
- 240ml Eager pink grapefruit juice
- 120ml Eager orange juice
- 2 bottles sparkling wine (optional)
- Garnish: Fresh cranberries and hand ice moulds
Hanging halloween ghost decorations
We love these hanging ghost decorations from Ginger Ray. Kind of cute, but sure to spook your guests or trick or treaters if they accidentally brush up against one!
Halloween vampire cranberry cocktail or mocktail
The ultimate spooky sipper for your Halloween party, mix together vodka, Eager cranberry juice and a splash of ginger ale, and garnish with a blood-red maraschino cherry. Leave out the vodka for a non-alcoholic version.
Ingredients (serves 1):
- 60ml vodka
- 60ml Eager cranberry juice
- Splash of ginger ale
- Garnish: maraschino cherry
You can add “blood” drips to your glasses for an even more gory twist…
Blood drip Halloween table décor
If you have a glue gun, this is a really simple way to turn any of your Halloween party decorations into something way more spooky, but we think it looks particularly effective on glassware.
Using the medium heat setting on the glue gun, add a red glue stick or red sealing wax stick and let it heat for five minutes.
Turn a clean glass upside down then slowly run the glue gun around the edge of the glass, letting the glue drip down the sides.
Let everything dry then turn the glue gun on the highest setting and fill in the bottom of the glass with a pool of glue to fill in any gaps. Once Halloween’s done, simply peel off the wax!
Spiderweb pumpkin
And if you feel like getting creative with your Halloween party décor, we love this “spin” on a traditional carved pumpkin.
Instead of carving out from the top, cut out an oval shape at the front of the pumpkin.
Scrape out the seeds and pulp, then spray paint the entire pumpkin (inside and outside) black, leaving just the stem if there is one.
Using an awl tool, or sharp skewer, punch holes around the edge of the opening and thread string through the holes to create a web, before glueing on a toy spider as the final touch.
